You and I, feel we feel too much
Most people wouldn’t understand
But we’re too passionate to live in moments forever
We experience as everything it is, was and could be
We act shallow, we don’t like to explain it
That’s why we have nights like these
where we don’t have to pretend, we’re like everybody else
Where we can acknowledge happiness without accepting it
Where we can let the darkest parts of ourselves come out to play
We can touch without holding, our souls can kiss and not linger
There’s 80s music playing in the background
Not the 90s, because that’s the type of music you dance to
And we don’t want to do that
We want to reminisce, drown in nostalgia
The kind of scene that reminds you of rain drops on a window
Or driving in the city late at night
We get a place far off from the ground
Large windows so we can gaze at the world below
We convince ourselves that the world is just that small
From this distance,
We could fly if we had the courage to jump
We choose to be sad and angry
But we still drink wine as a distraction
Not beer, it’s too crude and this moment is pure, smooth
Not whiskey or tequila, it’s too strong and this is a light moment
We’re pretending it’s a classy dinner
There’s light music and our demons are slow dancing
This can’t be happily ever after, we’ll always need breaks in between
Because we fantasize love, too cynical to romanticize life
